After watching "Tuesday with morrie"

While watching the movie, “Tuesday with Morrie”, it made me think hard about life. At the beginning of the movie, Morrie went to the dance club despite his old age and asked DJ to turn on tango music regardless of how people thought about him. Once in a while I think of whether we care too much about others’ looks toward us and whether or not it makes us be afraid of doing something. For instance, when I was in school, I didn’t like standing and saying something in front of many people, such as presentation because once I started presentation, my head was full of thought that how people would think about me, and I couldn’t do it well. So I’ve decided not to care too much about others and tried to do my best, not affected by people’s looks when I stand in front of them. As the movie plays, and Morrie’s disease get worse and worse, the theme went to death. Everybody think of death and nobody want to die for sure. Thought on death and the way to accept death make a big difference in people’s feelings. In the movie although Morrie knew that he had little time to live, he said “I’m a lucky guy because I still have time to be ready to die.” So knowing to die soon didn’t bother him much. Not wanting to admit death, many people go through a hard time before their death. I think since Morie accept his death he can die simply and peacefully. During the movie, I mostly agreed with what Morrie said, but when he mentioned about dependency, my opinion was different. He said “there’s nothing to be ashamed when I depend on others”, but in my viewpoint, people should be independent unless they have problems mentally or physically. Today’s society is very competitive. So you should have something special to survive in competition world. But if you’ve been dependent on others, it’ll make you hard to develop your own skill. Another point that I want to add here as regard life is satisfaction. As our society has been developed, our desire has also increased, and it hasn’t allowed us to be satisfied with what we have and rather has required us to get more and more. As a result, we can’t be happy in our life. Maybe everyone knows this, and many people try to be satisfied as it is. I’ve also tried it but found it difficult due to my greed. Finally I’ve concluded to be satisfied from time to time. We can’t be happy about what we’re doing all the time, but when we’re doing something to achieve our goal, think the way that we’ve walked and be satisfied with it just for a little while. I'm sure it'll make you happy

Canadian Economy

As seen above, this is my topic. Before saying why I've chosen this topic, I think Reading Jourrnal is a good way to know more and deeper about canada as well improve English. In fact, since I came to toronto of course, I've tried to read newspaper several times, but the problem is I didn't read the newpaper focusing on one topic, which means I read many articles without any canadian background, such as culture, history, and economy. As a result, I couldn't know why it happened, what was it going to influence canada, things like that. In contrast, now in the class we chose our own topic and searched some articles related to the topic, we've known one specific part of canada more detailedly. So, I decided to take advantage of reading journal to learn canadian economy. In addition, actually canadian economy, especially canadian dollar has a effect on me in terms of living in toronto. If the value of canadian dollar goes up as compared to Korean currency, WON, I'll get less canadian dollar in exchange for the same amount of Krean Won than before. That's one of my reasons why I chose this topic.
Another reason is as you know canada is very develped country other than a huge country. So I was interested in what made canadian economy so strong, and I thought it would help me in my future, maybe when I make a contract with canadian companies. Moreover, I can learn better some economy policies than we use in Korea
Nowdays economy has become one of the most significant aspect of our lives, and it's occupying more and more parts of our lives. We can't ignore iconomic power even though we want to do so as long as we live in the world, human society. Those are the reasons why I chose this topic. I hope I will get to know economy of canada in detail when I finish my reading journal.

Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech 2005

We've met several significant moments when we change ourselves totally. It may be a good or bad change for our lives. In the speech he mentioned 3 very important times in his life. each period have a great impact on his life. but In my opinion, his second story was the most important moment in his life. If he hadn't loved his job, he would've not started over, and there would not be now steve jobs stanford and apple company, but because he loved what he was doing even when he got fired, he started over and succeeded in his job. He addressed "love what you're doing and if you haven't found what you live to do yet, keep looking for it. Don't settle." It was very impressive massage for me. I think it's very important to love what I'm doing, for unless I enjoyed what I'm doing it'll be very hard to keep doing that and be happy. these days many people choose their future according to many other reasons like how much money they can make, social status, but the more important thing is whether or not I really love my job and what I'm doing now. As far as I'm concerned, successful person is the person who are satisfied with the state of thier lives and enjoy their lives, not the person who makes lots of money, not the person who has the high status in the society because even if their lives were said successful lives by others, they could not succeed in their own personal lives and be happy about themselves. Therefore we should love what we're doing in order to be successful in our lives.
Back to his speech, another important moment for him was when he dropped out of the college. In some point of view, it could've influeced him very badly. However, thanks to this he could take the class what he was interested in. As a result, he invented fascinating computer. In my viewpoint, he could succeed becuse he wasn't depressed about it. Rather, he took advantage of it
In Korea, every korean man have to serve in the army. I went to the army as well and finished my military service this year , but when I came out of the army, I had no idea how it changed me and what I were like if I hadn't entered the army. There are many advantage and disadvantage in every event that has happened to you. We don't know which one is bigger, advantage or disadvantage. we can only trust that it changed me positively. As in his speech, we can't connect current factors with our future, looking forward , which means we can't predict how this will influence me in the future. We can only look backward and connect our past with current effect. So we should believe that current factors we have now will change my life well then you'll have confidence to follow your heart.
Last, he dealt with "Death". He almost met death in his past and it changed him a lot. Daily we spend a lot of time pointlessly. I also spent a lot of time doing something I wasn't sure if I really liked it because I hadn't even tried to find what I loved to do, and even now I'm not sure whether what I'm doing now is what I love to do, but different thing is that I'm keeping looking for it and follow my heart. Our time is limited, so we should concentrate on doing what you love to do. There's a good expression. "It's no use crying over spilt the milk." It means it's pointless to regret later on.

So we shouldn't waste time living someone else's life. We should follow our heart instead.
